In the heart of Nottinghamshire, on the banks of the river Maun and a stone's throw from Sherwood Forest, the market town of Mansfield is home to nearly 100,000 people.
The area has been settled for centuries, the town being mentioned in the Doomsday Book, and its historic character comes out in the central market square. With its bustling stalls and and surrounding historic buildings it is certainly a good starting point for someone wishing to see Mansfield.
Aside from the main shopping areas, central Mansfield has a few award-winning stretches of parkland on offer, such as Carr Bank and Titchfield Park, as well as a very popular and well-equipped swimming pool and leisure centre complex.
Of course, because the town is relatively small in size, you are never more than 15 minutes from the scenic wooded countryside of Nottinghamshire.
